Dog walking in the beautiful North Cotswold countryside

My top 5 Cotswold walks – Dog walking in the beautiful North Cotswold countryside

Dog walking
Hounds Pet Care provides pack walks and dog training in the Cotswolds.

Our in-depth dog walking service provides structured walks focusing on off-leash play, enrichment, recall and loose lead walking.

I founded Hounds Pet Care in 2015 with the aim to provide a pet care service that creates a personal client experience and continues to grow and expand in knowledge.

I enjoy sharing my typical day at Hounds Pet Care on my Instagram page and the question I get asked the most is ‘where are you walking it looks so nice there’?

We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful areas in England with so many great walking options right on our doorstep, so I thought I’d share a few of my favourites walking routes.

Safety note – depending on the time of year these locations may have livestock in so always check the area before letting your dog off the lead!

Catbrook Chipping Campden

A stone’s throw from the centre of the high street, this is a stunning location to walk in. You can park in town and grab a coffee and something tasty from one of the many coffee shops on the high street. At Catbrook you will find lots of open off-lead space for your dog to roam and a stream to splash around in.

Dover’s Hill

A National Trust location with a must-see view. Dover’s Hill often has livestock so I would recommend you keep your dog on the lead or bring a long line lead with you.

The view is spectacular and there are plenty of benches to stop and take it in. As the name suggests it is a big hill so your dog will get plenty of exercise. I suggest grabbing a take-out sandwich from Victors in Chipping Campden and having a pit stop mid or post walk overlooking the view with your hound.

Broadway Tower

Just at the top of the hill heading out of Chipping Campden is Broadway Tower. Livestock are often in the area so do check before letting your dog off the lead. I recommend the circular route as the views are stunning and the Tower is breath-taking. Now this spot is made for dogs!!!

The cafe is dog-friendly if you want to grab a drink and a bite to eat. I highly recommend the bacon brie and cranberry panini is oh so good!! In the hotter months they do have an ice cream kiosk outside that also sells doggy ice cream.

Towards the end of the carpark there is a dedicated dog park with some agility games too.

Mickleton

Down the hill from Chipping Campden you will find the pretty village of Mickleton.

I suggest parking up by St Lawrence’s church (donation for parking can be made in the church box to side the of the carpark) and head up the drive into the fields. Most of the year there are no sheep in the first field. You can do a circuit walk of this field and then explore the village along with Page’s Farmshop, or continue up the hill up and take in the beautiful views of the village and the many shades of green! And rolling hills.

If you have the energy you can continue up the very steep hill which will bring you near the entrance of Kiftsgate Court Gardens.

From here you can continue into Hidcote or come back on yourself into the village and maybe grab a pub lunch at The Kings Arms.

Hidcote Bartrim

If you continue on to Hidcote you will find the National Trust Hidcote Gardens. You can also continue straight over the road from the Kiftsgate Hill into the field opposite which is a lovely walk.

Head to the end of the field through the gate into the orchard. This will take you into another field you can walk along the edge of, all the way into Hidcote Bartrim.

This hamlet is so pretty – it’s just what you imagine when you think of typical English, chocolate box villages. The duck pond and pretty thatch cottages lead you to the National Trust and carpark.
